Building work on a brand new Waitrose supermarket for Wells has finished right on schedule, ahead of the store opening at the beginning of August.

The new store is creating 140 jobs for the town.

Midas Retail worked with Discovery Developments to carry out external shell works to create the 24,600 square foot building.

Tyron Ebdon, project manager for Midas, comments: “We are delighted work is complete on this first-class new supermarket for Wells, which will bring so many benefits to the town.

“It has been a challenging project as the main store had to be built next to the new two-storey car park, as well as very close to local residents living nearby.

“But we have worked closely with the community to ensure building work was carried out sensitively and with minimal disruption.”

Waitrose received 800 applications for the 140 jobs being created, and Wells Chamber of Commerce welcomed the supermarket chain’s decision to join the chamber – becoming the first and only supermarket in the area to do so.
