Alistair Murray steps into new Chief Pharmacist role at Phlo Technologies

Alistair Murray
Scotland-based digital pharmacy leaders Phlo Technologies have appointed Alistair Murray into a new Chief Pharmacist role.
An experienced prescribing pharmacist and a digital pharmacy compliance expert, Murray will provide strategic leadership and help to steer Phlo’s continued growth.
Murray was the Founding Clinician at the online pharmacy Echo, where he was involved in the conception and launch of the company and later oversaw patient safety, operations and regulatory compliance as part of the senior leadership team. In 2019, following years of consistent scaling, Echo was acquired by LloydsPharmacy.
He is a Fellow of the UK Faculty of Clinical Informatics, and previously held honorary teaching roles at UCL and the University of Nottingham. He brings to the team experience in scaling digital pharmacy products, and in delivering innovative patient access programmes in partnership with local and national commissioners.
Another 2023 milestone for Phlo Technologies
This new appointment brings the Phlo team headcount to 87. It comes mid-way through a landmark year for Phlo Technologies – in February they announced their £10m Series A raise, and in April they announced their acquisition of the UK arm of their closest competitor in the B2B market: the US unicorn Truepill.
The company is in the midst of expanding the geographic footprint of its flagship Phlo Digital Pharmacy on-demand medication delivery product, whilst expanding the partnerships it has through market-leading API-driven digital pharmacy infrastructure Phlo Connect.
Adam Hunter, Chief Commercial Officer at Phlo Technologies, said: “Alistair brings the perfect mix of perspective and insight to Phlo’s senior leadership team. His unique combination of clinical and regulatory experience, and his track record in digital pharmacy, make him the ideal person to take on the role of Chief Pharmacist.
“As a company, we are in the midst of an ambitious and successful expansion phase. We’re also working continuously to improve the services and technologies that we offer to our healthtech partners. Alistair’s appointment will strengthen our work to elevate the UK digital pharmacy sector with best-in-class technologies and solutions.”
Alistair Murray, incoming Chief Pharmacist at Phlo Technologies, said: “It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining the senior leadership team at Phlo. In the wake of an impressive raise and a ‘sector first’ acquisition earlier in 2023, their work to transform the UK’s digital pharmacy landscape continues to display impressive momentum.
“As the Phlo Chief Pharmacist, I will be working closely with the team and our partner organisations to ensure the continued success of our regional expansion and new product development.
“Phlo is in a unique position with its API-enabled connectivity with B2B partners to provide a secure, timely, safe, and accurate service. I’m already hard at work getting us ready for our next phase of scaling, and patient safety, clinical excellence, and operational efficiency are at the heart of this. There is an excellent in-house team to enable us to achieve our goals and beyond.”
