Antler, the global startup generator and early-stage venture capital firm, has revealed the thirteen companies that were founded during its first London program. The companies have raised a total of £1.56m from Antler (£120k per company), and were revealed on stage at Antler’s London ‘Demo Day’.
Over 1800 individuals applied for the London program, with just over 70 making it into the final cohort. These exceptional people represented 32 nationalities, and 30% of the companies that raised money from Antler have at least one female founder, which is significantly above the London average of 21%. The founders have built companies across industries such as fintech, proptech, healthtech and legaltech.
Antler’s program has helped these entrepreneurs find their co-founders and build strong teams, validate their business ideas, and gain early traction, all in just over six months. Each company has worked closely with Antler’s London team, and with a strong network of local and international advisors. This process has prepared the ground for Antler to invest in these 13 companies.
Antoine Poirson, Partner of Antler London said: “I am extremely proud of the first London cohort, and believe that this group of entrepreneurs encapsulates what Antler is all about. The companies focus on a wide variety of sectors, including law, sexual wellness and sustainable cleaning with global ambitions. The founders have brought a phenomenal and diverse set of ideas to the table, and we are pleased that Antler’s program of support and engagement has helped bring these to fruition.”
Lars Kvaalen, Partner of Antler London said: “London is a perfect place to start a business. There is an abundance of talent here. There is an ever-increasing pool of technology and engineering talent; and a huge wealth of skilled people across industries such as finance, healthcare and law. In addition to that, there is a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem and strong funding environment. The conditions are right for exciting startups to grow, and therefore we believe that we will see phenomenally successful companies founded in our London programs.”
Magnus Grimeland, Antler’s CEO said, “It’s been an incredible start to the year for Antler. We have launched programmes in Oslo and Amsterdam, hosted demo days in Singapore, Stockholm and London, and will soon host another in Nairobi. Additionally, we’ve also raised another $50m into our funds. We are delighted that there is such a huge appetite for what we’re doing, from both the founder and investor community. We look forward to helping our entrepreneurs build some phenomenal companies in 2020.”
