Apprentice makes the grade

Dave-Jackson

To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, an apprentice at a major local employer has secured full-time work.

Dave Jackson (21) who comes from Weston, is now working full time as a gym instructor at the award-winning health club at Cadbury House in Congresbury, having attained his Gym NVQ Level II.

At a time when more young people are finding it harder to get work, many are turning to apprentice schemes to not only gain qualifications but also work experience in their chosen field.

Dave comments: “I’m delighted to have now gained this latest qualification and my goal now is to now get my personal training qualification.

“I’m the first to admit I wasn’t that interested in college so an apprenticeship was perfect for me.

“To be able to work at an award-winning health club and gain qualifications is a dream come true and I’d highly recommend this route for anyone who is interested.”

Jason Eaton, manager at theclub comments: “Firstly I’d like to congratulate Dave on his latest qualification. It goes to show what can be achieved when someone applies themselves to their goals.

“We have taken on apprentices at the health club and the spa for many years. They bring fresh energy and skills to our organisation and it has been great to work closely with local colleges.”
