Aquarian Cladding raise roof with £5k donation to Curzon Cinema

Clevedon company Aquarian Cladding Systems has lent its support to the town’s Curzon Cinema by donating £5,000 towards a fundraising campaign to replace its leaky roof.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund has pledged £239,900 towards the major reconstruction work, which will start in January if the rest of the £600,000 can be raised.

To help, the local community and businesses have managed to raise a magnificent £60,000, The Medlock Charitable Trust has donated £25,000 and the Curzon is able to allocate £60,000 from its own charitable reserves.

It means a further £215,000 is needed to get the roof back to its former glory to safeguard its long- term future and save the Curzon from closure.

For Clevedon resident and Aquarian Managing Director Paul Richards, the closure of such an iconic landmark is unthinkable and he’s urging others to get involved.

Richards said: “The Curzon is part of Clevedon’s heritage and is a magnificent building that is loved by everyone in the town. At Aquarian we have always supported Clevedon and our community, so we were delighted to help. The Curzon is a tremendous community asset and resource, and this is a fundraising campaign that everybody should be getting behind and supporting.”

Curzon chief executive Susannah Shaw commented: “The response and generosity from our community and businesses such as Aquarian Cladding has been wonderful. It just shows the affection that the Curzon is held in by the town and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been able to help.”

Originally built in 1912, the Curzon is one of the UK’s oldest, purpose-built, continuously running, independent cinemas.
