Asda considering thousands of job cuts

Supermarket chain, Asda has begun discussions within senior management regarding the future of their staff – and up to 2500 jobs may be in danger.
A statement from Asda confirmed that the food retail giant is considering employee roles and working hours across the stores in the UK. The company stated that any further changes would be to the benefit of their shoppers.
Asda, which is set to be taken over by competitor Sainsbury’s, subject to the CMA, has also revealed that employees in their George clothing stores could also be affected in the near future.
The main areas of the business that will be affected are in the back office, petrol station and bakery departments of the company.
A statement from Asda read: “We believe the proposed changes we are consulting on would allow us to do a better job for our customers. We also recognise that discussions about potential change aren’t easy. If the decision is taken to implement the proposed changes, we would work with our colleagues to look at the potential impact of these proposals on them.”
