‘Baby & Child’ retail sector revealed as the most popular for Black Friday

The SaleCycle Black Friday Ecommerce Strategy Stats Report 2021, which takes a deep dive into the trends and patterns of 2020 Black Friday, reveals that ‘Baby & Child’ is the retail sector with the biggest boom on Black Friday.

This follows the news that Bristol was revealed as the city with the savviest Black Friday shoppers followed by Leicester.

The report shows that in 2020, eager parents were gearing up for the sales by browsing the products available in the sale in the days prior to the event.

The ‘Baby & Child’ retail sector saw the biggest boom in online shoppers on Black Friday, with an increase in online traffic of 161% compared to the Friday prior. Not only did traffic increase on the day, but the week leading up to the event saw shoppers increase by 60% on the Wednesday and 136% on the Thursday.

Black Friday sales are not only an opportunity to grab the best deals on products shoppers have been eyeing up for a while, but they can help those with a tighter budget. Similarly to the year round sales provided by shops, parents can wait for the prices to drop dramatically, especially ahead of the Christmas shopping period.

Following ‘Baby & Child’ was ‘Sport and Outdoor’ with online traffic up by 97% and ‘Jewellery’ up by 64% as Brits took up new hobbies and treated the loved ones they couldn’t see during the Christmas period. UK Shoppers are utilising the Black Friday sales for everything from children’s essentials to outdoor gear and momentous gifts.

Brad Ward, author of the 2021 Black Friday Ecommerce Strategy & Stats Report, said: “It is clear shoppers are keen to find the best deals ahead of Black Friday, with online traffic increasing significantly beforehand. We recommend finding the offers on the products you’re looking for ahead of the sale and then getting online early on Black Friday morning.

“To beat virtual queues, try shopping first thing in the morning before 6am. In 2020, traffic increased 73% by 6am and 179% by 8am. To bag what you’re looking for, you’re better off getting ahead of the online crowd.”
