The owners of restaurant chains Bella Italia, Las Iguanas and Café Rouge – Casual Dining Group – has become the latest food and drink retailer to fall into administration as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NCDG’s outlets have now closed and 1,900 of the company’s 6,000 staff will lose their jobs. Alix Partners have been appointed administrators for the firm.

The group applied in May to appoint administrators as it found it increasingly difficult to pay its rents across the UK. However, last week the firm revealed it had received offers for the business and will be looking at the best way to proceed in the coming weeks.

Group Chief Executive James Spragg said: “We are acutely aware of our duty to all employees and recognise that this is an incredibly difficult time for them. Working alongside the administrators, we will do everything we can to support them through this process, with a view to preserving as much employment as we are able to.”
