Brexit date pushed back a further two weeks

Theresa May

Prime Minister Theresa May has been granted an extra two weeks to come up with a Brexit solution, following lengthy talks with the leaders of the European Union.

Despite the fact that March 29 2019 has been the set date for Britain’s departure from the EU, there have been a series of calamitous defeats for May in the House of Commons regarding how the exit will take shape.

Within the next two weeks, the PM will try to get her latest Brexit deal through the commons, and if accepted, the new date for departure will be Wednesday 22nd May. This has been done so the UK government has enough time to pass the necessary legislation.

However, if the deal is rejected, the PM and her team will have to go back to Brussels on April 12th to propose a new way forward.

European Council President Donald Tusk said all available Brexit options would remain open to Britain until then.
