Bristol food favourites provide surplus to FareShare South West

Pieminister and the Real Wrap Co. have partnered with FareShare South West to ensure their surplus food can be redistributed to charities and organisations across the region who support some of the most vulnerable.

Tackling food poverty and providing a solution to the food surplus issue which pervades the food industry, FareShare South West already redistributes around 400 tonnes of food to over 190 charities and organisations within Bristol and beyond.

With recent profile around their Big Breakfast campaign back in 2018, and with continuing momentum in support from people across the South West, the charity has seen an increase in local food businesses expressing interested in supplying them with their surplus products.

With Pieminister recently on board, FareShare South West is now benefiting from a weekly delivery of over 900 pies, including vegetarian and even vegan options. The pies have proved a real hit with homeless charities, lunch clubs and community centres, who are able to deliver a filling and wholesome meal to those who need it most.

Real Wrap Co., established in Bristol in 2010, has grown significantly and now supplies fresh salads and sandwiches to schools, universities and the NHS. With their delivery of sandwiches each week, FareShare South West can now ensure lunches are never dull and always delicious for the users of their charity partners.

Jason Howell, Real Wrap Co. Founder, said: “Tackling food waste has always been something we have been keen to address. We have spent a lot of time over the last few years looking for innovative ways to reduce our impact; sending the majority of our food waste to anaerobic digestion and even turning waste bread into beer. However, there is always more to be done so we are overjoyed to be working alongside FareShare South West to tackle the growing issues around both food waste and food poverty.”
