A Bristol hot yoga studio has become the only UK retailer for one of the world’s most pioneering recycled clothes – leggings that are made completely out of plastic bottles.
Yogafurie, which is based in Ashley Down, made contact with Yoga Democracy as the team share the same ethos as the American company.
Yoga Democracy is an ethical yoga wear brand committed to using recycled fibers and zero-water dying. Each pair of leggings is made with polyester derived from 100% post-consumer material, namely BPA-free recycled plastic bottles.
Ed Wood, founder and owner of the Yogafurie studio, which is fully fitted with sustainable energy sources, said: “When you see the leggings you just cannot believe they are made from plastic bottles. As we are a hot yoga studio we try our hardest to keep plastic out, but we’re also aware that people need to drink a lot of water too and that often comes in a plastic bottle. This way, we feel we’re giving back a bit to the planet.
“The feedback we have had is also that the materials are perfect for hot yoga because they are lightweight and do not feel hot, scratchy or heavy, so our customers love them.”
Natalie Oldroyd, founder and owner of Yoga Democracy, said: “We are delighted to have our first UK-based stockist with Yogafurie as we share so many values.
“In Bristol, there is also a huge environmentally-friendly movement, as well as a great love of yoga. I’m really glad people will be wearing and – I hope – loving our leggings because they look great as well as bringing the feel-good factor about helping improve our eco system.”
