British Steel appoints new CEO

British Steel has appointed Peter Bernscher as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Peter, who will officially take up the position on 2 May 2017, has 30 years of experience in the steel industry, having held numerous board and director positions with global technology and capital goods group voestalpine.

When Peter joins British Steel, Roland Junck will continue in his current role as Executive Chairman until the end of 2017. They will work in tandem during this period of handover, after which time Roland will take up the position of Non-Executive Chairman and continue to provide his experience and strategic support to the business.

British Steel’s Executive Chairman Roland Junck said: “I’m delighted to welcome Peter to our team. We haven’t rushed the process of securing a CEO because we wanted to ensure we got the right person for the role and Peter is that person.

“He’s highly experienced, with a strong commercial background and will bring another important external viewpoint to the company as we continue our evolution into an outward looking business.”
