Burger King CEO refusing to pay rent due to coronavirus

Covid-19 News | Food & Drink | Retail | South East

Burger King CEO Alasdair Murdoch has today announced that the iconic fast-food chain will not be paying its rent due on its restaurants across the UK this week.

Many retail businesses are set to withhold their quarterly rent payments, which are due this Wednesday, so they can pay their staff.

Government figures stated that shops will not be able to forfeit leases and will have to pay arrears in the future.

Murdoch said: “We are not intending to pay our rent. Most landlords have been reasonable about this. I do think there are a number of creative solutions as well. We could add three months on to the end of the lease for those people who are unable to pay in the short-term at the end of these three months.”
