Business Disability Forum publishes new resources on employee wellbeing

Ahead of World Mental Health Day 2021 on 10 October, Business Disability Forum has published two free resources to help all employers promote employee wellbeing and resilience.

The two new resources offer advice to managers, HR teams, and senior leaders on talking about mental health in the workplace and the impact of physical health on mental health.

‘Employee wellbeing and resilience – Talking about mental health’ covers how to encourage everyone to be open about their mental health. This includes the importance of senior leaders sharing their own stories. It also offers tips on supporting remote workers.

‘Employee wellbeing and resilience – Physical health and mental health’ looks at the link between mental health and physical health. The resource gives advice on creating workplace wellbeing initiatives that include everyone, as well as actions managers can take to support the physical and mental health of their teams.

Diane Lightfoot, CEO, Business Disability Forum said: “We know that the pandemic has had a significant impact on people’s mental health and that employers are recognising the vital need to promote employee wellbeing.

“But, with colleagues working in new ways and across diverse locations, supporting everyone’s physical and mental health can be difficult. Our new resources offer practical and clear advice to help everyone thrive at work.”

According to mental health charity Mind, one in five adults experienced depressive symptoms in the first quarter of 2021, compared to one in ten before the pandemic outbreak.

Statistics from Bupa Global also show that 64% of senior business leaders have experience of a mental health condition.

Therefore, the free resources from Business Disability Forum could prove invaluable to many UK employers and their employee.
