Business Leader caught up with Dr Paul Phillips, Principal and Chief Executive of Weston College, to see how they have handled the pandemic and what the future of the education sector looks like.
While the world adjusts to the ‘new normal’ due to COVID-19, a variety of sectors have had to pivot their operations in an unprecedented fashion. Education has been dramatically affected by the pandemic, with learners seeing their reality shift midway through the academic year.
Since being appointed Principal at Weston College in 2001, Dr Paul Phillips has overseen a dramatic transformation. He has taken the College from below-average academic results and a poor financial standing to Ofsted ‘outstanding’ status and a national reputation for excellence.
Dr Paul has also received extensive recognition for his individual efforts and achievements. In 2011 he was awarded an OBE for his services to further education and the voluntary sector, followed by a CBE in 2017 for his work in further and higher education. Most recently, Dr Paul was named FE Leader of the Year at the 2019 TES FE Awards.
