Calling all businesses – The Big Drop is back

Weston Hospicecare is once again teaming up with local business, colleges and community sites to bring you The Big Drop.

Kicking off on September 19 and running until September 26, the event will act as a catalyst to replenish stock levels in their charity shops.

The event raised £4,500 of charity shop stock in May 2012 and returns with some new sites, ready to take the unwanted items from your garages, lofts, wardrobes and cupboards.

Weston Hospicecare is pleased to have teamed up with Weston College, The Campus in Locking Castle, Asda and Worlebury Golf Club – who hope to retain their title of most successful site from The Big Drop in May.

There will also be a Big Drop site in Blagdon’s village car park, at the Hospice in Uphill and at each of its 16 charity shops.

Leading telecoms provider Pure Comms is also taking part in the event and will act as a site where people can drop off any unwanted items.

Rob Vivian, who is Managing Director of Pure Comms comments on why they have got involved: “It’s a great idea for a great cause. We’re delighted to be involved and interested to see what stock we end up with.”

Sarah Bostock, Marketing Manager at Weston Hospicecare said: “The Big Drop is so important to the Hospice as our shops provide a significant part of our fundraising. We’re selling stock at a much faster rate than it’s coming in – despite the fantastic support of our current donors – and if we don’t have the stock to sell, we can’t deliver enough funds to support Hospice services.

“It’s nearing the time when people will be bringing the jeans and woolly cardigans out again for the winter, or refreshing the decor at home to make it a bit warmer, so why not make room by donating the things you don’t use anymore. It will make such a huge difference to the lives of so many local people.”

The Big Drop will run from Wednesday 19th September to Wednesday 26th September. Full details of the drop sites and other information can be found at www.the-big-drop.co.uk or call 01934 423960.
