Details for the £100 million masterplan for Chester Racecourse has been revealed at an exhibition event at the site,

The scheme, which is being designed to secure the city’s standing as one of the UK’s top racecourses, will provide new and improved facilities for racegoers.

The plans also include extending the racecourse estate with buildings which will attract events to the racecourse throughout the year.

Richard Thomas, chief executive officer of Chester Race Company, said: “Our masterplan 2018 represents a substantial commitment to the development of the racecourse site and we can apportion many additional benefits from this planned investment to the city and our local community.”

The masterplan comprises a number of elements, the most notable being a new grandstand, 1,000-seat conference venue and car park being built, alongside an extension to the site’s existing hotel.

If approved, the project would be implemented in phases over a number of years.
