Disney’s Head of Streaming to become first CEO of TikTok

Disney’s Head of Streaming, Kevin Mayer, last night announced that he is stepping down from the entertainment giant to become the first CEO of social media platform TikTok.

TikTok, an app where users post short videos, has seen an explosion of growth since its launch, and a further growth during the lockdown.

As well as taking the role at TikTok, Mayer will also become the CEO of ByteDance, the platform’s Chinese parent company.

Mayer will be responsible for ByteDance’s global strategy. He said: “I’m excited to help lead the next phase of ByteDance’s journey as the company continues to expand its breadth of products across every region of the world.”
