Theo Paphitis has partnered with national charity, Young Enterprise, to celebrate young entrepreneurs. The partnership is a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Small Business Sunday (#SBS), Paphitis’s small business initiative.

In 2010 and at the height of the BBC show Dragons’ Den, Theo Paphitis was inspired by the pitches he would receive on social media. Using his platform and the show’s popularity, Paphitis decided to run a competition on his Twitter account to provide an opportunity for businesses to grow as part of a small business network. He invited small business owners to tweet him on Sundays between 5 pm – 7.30 pm, with #SBS (Small Business Sunday), to tell him about their businesses to try to find ways to catch his eye to be one of his six weekly winners. Paphitis has done this ever since.

Fast forward 10 years, and the competition still takes place on the retail entrepreneur’s Twitter account every Sunday and its success has been noticeable. “I can’t believe it is ten years since I created #SBS at the Paphitis kitchen table and that the network now has over 3,000 small businesses in its family,” commented Paphitis.

With the 10th anniversary of #SBS coming in October, the Dragon has decided to celebrate the occasion in style.

“I have seen many more young entrepreneurs of all ages tweeting me during the #SBS hours every Sunday, so the partnership with Young Enterprise, to give young entrepreneurs a boost, was common sense to me. It is particularly important that we support our business owners, many of whom may have launched this year in tricky times, and I look forward to seeing the young business talent we have in our midst,” said Paphitis.

How do you enter the special Small Business Sunday (#SBS) event?

On Sunday 11th October, Theo Paphitis inviting only under 25-year-old business owners to enter a very special Small Business Sunday (#SBS) event. For the first time, the competition will be run on LinkedIn and Instagram, along with the usual #SBS destination, Twitter. Entrants will need to tweet or post about their business on Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram and use #SBS, as well as following and tagging @theopaphitis on their chosen platform. All eligible businesses must be run by someone aged between 13-24 years old, and have been running for at least three months, having also made sales.

Paphitis has teamed up with Young Enterprise to celebrate the anniversary. Young Enterprise is a national charity which works to equip young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to succeed in the changing world of work.
