Dyson announce plans to cut up to 900 jobs due to impact of COVID-19

James Dyson

Global tech and manufacturing giant Dyson has announced plans to cut 600 jobs in the UK and a further 300 worldwide due to the impact the coronavirus has had on the retail industry.

The company has a global workforce of 14,000, with 4,000 in the UK – and even before the outbreak of COVID-19, the company was planning on restructuring the business. However, those plans have now been accelerated and the job losses will mostly occur in retail and customer service roles.

A Dyson spokesman said: “The COVID-19 crisis has accelerated changes in consumer behaviour and therefore requires changes in how we engage with our customers and how we sell our products.”

Most Dyson products are designed in the UK, where it has two technology campuses in Wiltshire, but manufactured in Asia.
