Elon Musk is the new favourite with Betway to be named 2018’s TIME Magazine Person of the Year, leapfrogging previous market leader Donald Trump following the successful launch of the Falcon Heavy.
Engineered by Musk, the world’s most powerful rocket in operation successfully launched on Tuesday and the SpaceX CEO is now being tipped to topple Trump in a race to be named TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year.
The US President has been pushed out to 5/2 from 7/4 with the leading online bookmaker following the launch, while Pope Francis remains third in the betting at 9/2.
Betway also offer 10/1 for Musk to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize before 2022 and, with South African President Jacob Zuma seemingly close to resigning, the Pretoria-born businessman is 25/1 to be the country’s next leader.
Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Wacky, egotistic and brilliant could all be used to describe Elon Musk’s latest splash, three adjectives that put him right in the frame for the TIME Magazine award.
“Donald Trump’s election victory in 2016 paved the way to him collecting TIME magazine’s Person of the Year award, and while he is still in with a chance of regaining the crown at 5/2, Musk is the new hot favourite at 9/4.
“Not putting a boundary on what Musk may achieve next, he’s 10/1 to pick up the Nobel Peace Prize in any of the next five years and 25/1 to replace Jacob Zuma as the President of South Africa.”
