Outspoken Tesla and SpaceX entrepreneur Elon Musk has officially become the world’s richest person, following a 4.8% rise in Tesla’s share price last night.
Musk’s personal wealth has now surpassed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and now is valued at more than £136bn. In the past year, Musk’s personal wealth has increased by more than £100bn.
Following the announcement, Musk responded on Twitter.

Bezos had held the position since 2017, having himself surpassed Microsft founder Bill Gates. Bezos also become the world’s first centillionaire last year (value of more than $100bn).
Tesla’s value has soared in recent months, and now has a market value of more than £516bn – making it more valuable than Ford, Toyota and Volkswagen combined.
