An experiential marketing company, a cloud-based business phone system and an app that works with GP practices to deliver medication are among the five tech start-ups flying the flag for the UK in Barcelona next year.

Bristol-based Landmrk, Circleloop from Manchester, Learning Labs in Birmingham and Echo and Smartpipe, both from London were selected from well over a hundred start-ups who applied to KPMG’s Best British Start-up competition.

As regional finalists they will now head to the Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest mobile industry gathering in February next year where they will showcase the high quality of mobile tech start-ups coming out of the UK.

Each start-up will have the opportunity to exhibit and present their businesses and ideas at the industry event which attracts global investors and major corporates from the telecommunications sector.

Finalists will pitch their business to judges at the dedicated start-up conference 4 Years From Now (4YFN) at Mobile World Congress in front of an illustrious panel of judges and one will be crowned the Best British Mobile Startup 2018.

Previous competitions featured businesses like Babylon Health, What3Words and Revolut which have become household names in the UK startup ecosystem following the competition.

Commenting on the finalists Alex Holt, global head of KPMG’s media and telecommunications said: “There is a huge amount of disruption taking place in the telecoms sector and the big players are very keen to invest in and keep up with new and innovative technologies.

“Mobile World Congress is the premier event in this sector and our finalists have the opportunity to accelerate their growth ambitions, network with major players in the sector and showcase the amazing innovation coming out of the UK in this space.

“For the winner, and all of our finalists, this could be a game changing moment and I am sure they will make the very most of the opportunity.”
