Fracking halted at only UK site following 1.6 magnitude earthquake

Energy & Low Carbon Industry | North West

Fracking at the UK’s only active site has been put on hold after a 1.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the area.

The earthquake at the Lancashire site, between Blackpool and Preston, yesterday recorded the largest fracking quake on record – beating the previous record of 1.5.

Any tremor over 0.5 means fracking must be temporarily suspended while tests are carried out. Cuadrilla, who run the operation, have suspended operations for 18 hours, and are set to resume later today.
