Fast-growing North Somerset telecoms company Pure Comms were recently paid a high-profile visit by Dr Liam Fox MP.

Pure Comms is based at the Radius Enterprise Centre in Clevedon Hall, Clevedon, and Dr Liam Fox, who is the MP for North Somerset visited the company to discuss some of the challenges young ambitious businesses, such as Pure Comms, face.

Dr Fox was given a tour of the building and offices and was introduced to the Pure Comms team, before sitting down to talk with Managing Director Rob Vivian.

One of the issues raised by Rob was the time it had taken for Pure Comms to receive Enterprise Finance Guarantee funding.

Rob also broached the subject of fraud within the telecoms sector and a potential loop hole which he is keen to see industry regulators, Ofcom, address.

Dr Fox also learnt about the rapid growth the company has experienced since it formed in 2009 and Pure Comms’ place on Business West’s high-growth mentoring scheme.

Rob comments: “Naturally it was a real honour to welcome Dr Fox and have him spend time learning about our business and the ambitions we have for the future.

“We’re growing very fast but like many young businesses we do have challenges such as accessing finance and recruiting new members of staff.

“It was really rewarding to be able to talk through these issues with Dr Fox and find out what measures government is putting in place to ensure businesses like ours can realise their full potential.”

In addition to talking about conditions for business Rob also talked through his company’s approach to telecoms and how they are one of the few providers in the UK to offer the type of service they do.

Rob also explained how the Pure Comms business model is built around offering a bespoke, customer centric service, rather than slashing prices just to win contracts.

Towards the end of the meeting Dr Fox had this to say: “Pure Comms is clearly a company that has all the foundations in place for success and is demonstrating that entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking in North Somerset.

“Like many other businesses in North Somerset access to capital and the restrictions of employment law are concerns. But these concerns aside, they are part of a buoyant local economy with very low rates of unemployment and huge potential for further growth.”

Pure Comms was established in 2009 by entrepreneur Rob Vivian, who previously worked in London for procurement consultants Kendrick James.

The company work together with a number of high-profile clients that include Bristol Airport, Computerworld, recruitment consultants Redrock and Opus and one of the UK’s leading fuel suppliers BWOC.
