French energy company EDF has today revealed that Hinkley Point C nuclear power station is currently running at a cost of £2.9bn over budget.
This means that the project is now set to cost a total of around £22.5bn once completed. EDF also announced that there would likely be a delay of 15 months on the project.
EDF previously rose the estimate back in 2017 by £1.5bn, and this follows other major projects facing issues in the UK – most notably HS2.
The cross-country high-speed railway saw its costs rise from £62bn, to £81bn, and then last week to £88bn.
