A four-storey, 119-bedroom hotel could be built at a key gateway site into Weston-super-Mare to help meet commercial demand in the town.
Zeal Hotels has applied to North Somerset Council to allow redesign and repositioning of a proposed Holiday Inn Express hotel at Weston Gateway Business Park.
If approved, the application would see a 119-bed hotel with bar and restaurant, conference rooms and parking for cars and coaches built at the Somerset Avenue site, close to junction 21 of the M5 motorway.
Tim Wheeldon, Managing Director of Zeal Hotels said: “Weston-super-Mare is historically a holiday destination, however there is a considerable amount of commercial demand for hotel accommodation within the immediate area.
“The quality of the hotel and the proximity to J21 of the M5 will ensure a good cross section of business and leisure trade. Subject to planning, we hope to open the hotel in June 2021
“We are excited about this opportunity and this will be our third hotel in Somerset.”
The Holiday Inn Express Bridgwater at junction 24 opened in May 2019 and the firm is currently building an Ibis Hotel and Keepers Bar & Restaurant at Woodlands Court Business Park, Bridgwater at junction 23 which is scheduled to open in November.
Gemma Day, Director of Weston Gateway owner Dowlas UK, said: “We are pleased to have agreed terms with Zeal Hotels and are looking forward to finally seeing a quality landmark hotel opening on the Weston Gateway Business Park.
“The Holiday Inn Express is a worldwide recognised brand and it will complement the existing uses on the business park well.”
