A Cheshire-based international hydraulics consultancy and distributor has secured its most lucrative exporting deal to date, thanks to support from the Department for International Trade (DIT).
Hydraulics Online, based in Alsager, has secured an initial £500k contract to supply hydraulics solutions to a Chinese construction firm, as the country’s infrastructure demands continue to grow.
The deal will see equipment provided for a range of infrastructure projects in developing countries.
The business continues to work closely with DIT to attract new clients internationally, with one in two of its new customers now coming from overseas.
Founded in 2004, Hydraulics Online employs seven members of staff, and plans to recruit in the next 12 months to meet growing demand. With clients in more than 130 countries, the business’ order intake has increased by 70 per cent in the last 12 months as a direct result of its exporting activity.
Working with more than 80 brands to service its international client base, the distributor became one of DIT’s newly recognised Export Champions earlier this year, to promote exporting in the North West and beyond.
Helen Tonks, joint managing director of Hydraulics Online, said: “The deal we’ve secured in China is our biggest yet, and gives us every confidence of further growing our presence in Asia in the coming years.
“Our customer base is diverse; spanning 20 identified market sectors and ranging from major household names – including the iconic Concorde and US Navy – to business start-ups and universities. This breadth provides clear evidence of the universal appeal of our offering but the support DIT has provided has been invaluable in commercialising that appeal overseas.
“As we look to further internationalise our sales and marketing strategy, we intend to draw upon their expertise and support more so than ever before to guide us in selecting and introducing ourselves to the right markets overseas. If we can be successful exporters, many others can too.”
Paul Stowers, head of region for the North West at DIT (Northern Powerhouse), said: “Hydraulics Online is a fantastic example of a business maximising its growth potential by tapping into both established and emerging markets.
“Through seeking the right expertise and product partnerships, the business has become a true champion exporter.
“We have a team on the ground across the North West, as well as International Trade Advisers based across the globe, ready to help set up meetings, discuss the logistical barriers needed to start exporting and advise on opportunities that can help your business grow. I’d encouraging anyone considering the first or next step in their exporting journey to get in touch.”
