Welsh insurance brokerage CEO, Lyndon Wood, visited students of Bridgend College this week and encouraged them to ‘do what you love and success will follow’ during a talk on entrepreneurship.
Wood, owner of South Wales company Moorhouse Group Ltd, which has constructaquote.com and XO under its umbrella of companies, spoke to students as part of his ongoing community plan to mentor students whose aim is to eventually start-up their own businesses.
Lyndon Wood, CEO, constructaquote.com, said: “During a meeting with the previous Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds, it became clear that it is vital that business owners need to help create a way for young adults to follow a road outside of traditional examinations and learning if they so choose.
“We need to help build confidence in young adults to ensure they succeed in life. Whether students go down the traditional route of education or not, young adults need to believe in themselves and should be supported and inspired. We need to break down barriers on their journey to success whichever route they choose.”
Lyndon Wood, knows a thing or two about going down an alternative road to success. From sleeping in his car to millionaire businessman, the 48-year old from South Wales dropped out of school at aged 14 and now runs a business empire estimated at around £20m.
“I moved out of my house and got a job in insurance on a commission-only basis. If I didn’t sell, I didn’t earn. I thought, well, I’ll build my own business as I didn’t know what else to do with my life. I was young and people tried to dissuade me from doing it. It was a big risk but I just got on with it,” said Wood.
