Jeff Bezos adds £10bn to personal fortune in single day due to surge in Amazon share price

Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.
Amazon founder and the world’s richest man – Jeff Bezos – saw his vast fortune increase by £10bn in a single day on Monday, after shares in the online retail giant rose nearly 8%.
Bezos’s personal fortune is now estimated to be worth around £148bn – with many financial experts expecting it to rise significantly further before the end of the year.
His wealth has increased £58bn this year alone and Amazon shares have soared by more than 70% in 2020 – largely down to the impact the coronavirus has had on the retail sector.
Ahead of Amazon’s Q2 results, Bezos said: “From online shopping to AWS to Prime Video and Fire TV, the current crisis is demonstrating the adaptability and durability of Amazon’s business as never before.
“If you’re a shareowner in Amazon, you may want to take a seat, because we’re not thinking small. Under normal circumstances, in this coming Q2, we’d expect to make some $4bn or more in operating profit.”
