EDF Energy has awarded the term service contract to HOST 2 Limited to manage the Hinkley Point C worker accommodation campuses for the site.
An estimated 25,000 job opportunities will be created during the construction of Hinkley Point C, with the workforce staying in a mixture of dedicated accommodation campuses, private rentals and private homes.
Kevin McCarthy, HOST Chairman, said: “This is great news for HOST and clearly demonstrates EDF Energy’s commitment to supporting and developing Somerset businesses.
“As a beneficiary of EDF Energy’s commitment to supporting and developing Somerset businesses, HOST recognises the need to ensure that resources and services are sourced from qualified local businesses wherever possible.
“With the invaluable assistance of the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, which co-ordinates the Hinkley Point C Supply Chain, HOST has, in turn, awarded preferred bidder status to numerous local businesses to ensure resilient supply and service delivery and to help them invest in a better future for Somerset. This is particularly in areas like linen, food, drink and consumable supplies, internal and external cleaning plus repairs and maintenance services.”
5,600 workers are expected to be on site at the peak of construction activity and it is anticipated that those living in the two purpose-built accommodation campuses and rented properties will spend in excess of £150 million on accommodation over the lifetime of the project. The campus accommodation will house about a quarter of the workforce.
HOST has more than 60 years first class international and domestic hotel and leisure experience and is a joint venture of four Somerset companies that joined forces to bid for the campus management contract.
