International legal practice Osborne Clarke has advised M+W Group to deliver “Energy Works” – a £200m green energy power plant in Hull.

M+W Group, based in Chippenham, is a high-tech design, engineering and construction company specialising in the energy, science and research and advanced manufacturing industry sectors.

Following the announcement by Spencer Group, one of the UK’s largest privately-owned multi-disciplinary engineering businesses, construction of the Energy Works scheme will begin in January next year, with the 25MW facility due to be operational by January 2018.

Spencer will carry out the civil works as well as operating the plant when complete on behalf of the investors.

The Osborne Clarke team that advised on the transaction was led by Bristol-based partner Carl Thompson with assistance from Elspeth Vincent and Ben Martin.

Energy Works will be the largest facility of its type in the UK and the first advanced gasification power plant supported by the Government’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) arrangements, which have been put in place to stimulate investment in green energy developments to achieve targets for carbon reduction.
