Derby-based law firm Nelsons has promoted Gareth Protheroe and Lynsey Burke to associates in its dispute resolution and family law teams.

Family lawyer Protheroe, who qualified as a solicitor in 2014, specialises in acting on behalf of parents in child proceedings, as well as advising on domestic violence cases.

He said: “Nelsons has a well-established and well-respected family department – working across a range of matters including family and children, care proceedings, divorce and domestic violence cases – and I’m really proud to be a part of the team.

“It’s great that Nelsons has recognised the hard work that I carry out and promoted me to associate. I have learnt so much during my time at Nelsons and continue to broaden my knowledge each and every day.

“I’m currently applying to be on the law society’s children’s panel, which would allow me to start representing children in cases, so that is a high priority for me going forward.”

Burke, who qualified as a solicitor in 2009, specialises in commercial disputes, including advising on professional negligence matters.

She said: “I was really excited to join the dispute resolution team in Derby last year – I’d heard of Nelsons’ excellent reputation and couldn’t wait to start working alongside highly motivated and skilled solicitors. It was clear the firm was looking to grow and had a dynamic approach that was inspiring to me.

“Commercial litigation covers a wide range of industries so I am always dealing with new and interesting challenges. It’s important to keep in mind that there is more than one way to resolve commercial disputes and strategising with the client throughout the life of the claim is the most interesting part of the job.

“I’m really enjoying being at Nelsons and I’m delighted to have been promoted to associate. I’m now looking forward to nurturing and growing my network base in Derby, while continuing to provide a top-quality service to clients.”
