Major rock salt supplier is urging businesses to stock up

Rock saltNailsea based Visual Business, who is a major supplier of rock salt, is urging organisations, businesses and individuals across the South West to stock up on the mineral, so they don’t get caught out when winter hits.

Nicci Davies, owner of Visual Business explains that in the UK supplies of rock salt often run out when severe weather conditions occur. To stop this happening Visual Business have started to supply de-icing products ahead of the winter period, with major airports amongst those already ordering from them.

But Nicci is urging more companies of all sizes and members of the public to also stock up in preparation.

The alternative is to buy nearer the time but this will mean inflated prices because as the UK stock runs low and demand increases, suppliers are then forced to buy in from abroad at higher prices.

According to Nicci prices are still at an acceptable level but because the official winter forecast has been issued, with predictions suggesting the worst winter for four years, buying has started in earnest and she predicts that prices could start to rise within two weeks.

“This year, companies have the chance to reserve and pay for their salt now and we will store it for free until it is required. This can be up to two years and if it hasn’t been used after this time, it can be stored for the nominal amount of £11.00 per tonne per year,” Nicci explains.

“Our stock is held on private land that has a 5000 tonne storage capacity in Derbyshire and we are in the process of having another storage facility built in time for the winter rush,” adds Nicci.

Visual Business use a highly effective logistics network that can guarantee large quantities of rock salt are delivered to businesses and individuals in a very short period of time, barring severe weather, and they have supplied most of the local airports for the past four years. As well as many other large and small companies across the UK.

“There is a tendency to leave buying rock salt to the last minute or to assume that your local authority will have enough to cover your area. But it is vital that people prepare now and businesses take the initiative and buy in even small supplies, so they don’t get caught short and also take steps to minimise injuries caused by icy conditions, which can lead to lost work time and the potential of costly court cases.”
