Mike Ashley facing revolt from Sports Direct investors

Mike AshleyHigh street sports retailer, Sports Direct has announced that Mike Ashley has won his re-election as director of the company. However, it hasn’t been easy for the controversial retail entrepreneur.

Shareholders in Sports Direct have registered their unhappiness at Ashley, his business tactics and acquisitions, after a quarter of the independent shareholders voted against re-election.

Due to Ashley owning 62% of the company, he won the vote in a landslide.

Sports Direct is currently under a lot of pressure to appoint a new auditor after Grant Thornton quit, but shareholders were told no decision had been made.

In a statement, Sports Direct said: “Mike Ashley was re-elected with over 90% of the vote and the audited accounts for the year ended 28 April 2019 were also approved by over 99% of shareholders.”
