M&S set to be kicked out of the FTSE100

British retail giant Marks and Spencer (M&S) are expected to be relegated from the FTSE100 index of Britain’s biggest listed companies later today.

If they were to be demoted, it will for the first time since the index was launched in 1984.

The reason for the firm’s sharp fall is down to struggles within their food business – an issue that has led to a 40% market share fall in recent months.

The demotion has long been predicted by financial experts in the UK, and the retailer has been barely holding onto its current position for the last 12 months.
