My Working Day – Cathy Moseley – CEO of Boundless

My Working Day

As the leader of a company, you are there to set an example, to lead and inspire a team individuals to achieve a series of business goals. But how do these business leaders go about their daily routine?

Business Leader spoke to Cathy Moseley, CEO of Boundless, about her working day.

What time do you usually wake up?

I’m always awake between 5:30 and 6. I normally go out for a walk or run then, I love the peace and quiet and it helps clear my mind for the day.

What do you typically have for breakfast?

I’m not a massive fan of breakfast, but I will always have a hot water and lemon and a homemade super greens juice. I much prefer a bigger lunch and dinner!

What is the rest of your morning routine before you start work?

The first thing I do is check my emails- I always do this before my walk/ run so when I’m out I can plan out my agenda of what needs doing for the day. After my run, and when I’m ready for the day, I’ll head downstairs to have breakfast with my husband and have a cuddle with my dog. Family time is very important to me, and spending time with them both in the morning puts me in good spirits for the day. After that, I’m on my way to the office.

What is the first thing you do at the start of your working day?

The first thing I do when I come into the office is put the music on, and head to our ‘Let’s Go Nuts’ mood board to mind map what we’re all doing for the day.

How do you priorities your days work?

Top of the agenda is always making sure the team are happy with what they’re doing, and then it’s on to chatting to our Boundless Tribe to spread our mission!

Do you plan meetings or are they a waste of time?

Our team works really closely together, so in a way we do plan meetings, but really our meetings arise because of fact that we are a small start-up company. With such a close knit team, any news we have is instantly shared: we love being able to share anyone’s success in the moment, no matter how big or small.

Do you have a working lunch or is it good to take a break?

Breaks are really important to us, to step away from the desk and make sure that we prioritise ourselves as well as the workload. We have a relaxation area in the office with deck chairs and beanbags, and on the days that the dog’s in the office with us we’ll go for a walk around our lovely local park.

When does your workday finish?

Realistically, the workday finishes when I close my eyes to go to bed. Running a start-up in such a competitive industry is hard work, non-stop, and I wouldn’t pretend anything different. Nonetheless, this is something I thrive on; when you’re doing something you love, you give your heart and soul to it. Boundless is such a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

How do you prepare for the next day’s work?

We always have long-term agendas that will be part of the next day’s work, ones that are continually worked on. Long-term goals for us are to be an everyday snack of choice, so we know that this will be the focus of everyday tasks. However, I tend to plan the day in the morning rather than the evening because we need to be able to adapt to what has happened the day before.

How do you switch off?

Running in the morning is great for my mental wellbeing. I also love socialising with family and friends, cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. My passion for exciting, new flavour combinations was a huge part of why I created Boundless: our snacks are exciting, adventurous and beyond the norm- they are boundless.
