As the leader of a company, you are there to set an example, to lead and inspire a team of individuals to achieve a series of business goals. But, how do these business leaders go about their daily routine?
Business Leader spoke to Charlotte Ricard-Quesada – founder and creative director of La Fête, about her working day.
What time do you usually wake up?
I generally wake up at 7am. I never used to enjoy waking up early, but now I love it: I get so much more done!
What do you typically have for breakfast?
Quite atypical, but duck breast or chicken breast with carrots. I’ve been doing the Metabolic Balance diet for 18 months now and it’s been life-changing.
What is the rest of your morning routine before you start work?
Before getting down to work, I make sure to factor in some ‘me-time’. It’s usually a physical activity, such as boxing or barrecore, but now also includes piano lessons.
What is the first thing you do at the start of your working day?
I have a cappuccino, check my emails and from there, edit and update my daily to-do list.
How do you priorities your days work?
It can be hard to prioritise at times, but I just go with the day’s events and make sure to dedicate a set amount of time to each task.
Do you plan meetings or are they a waste of time?
Meetings are great, and I always find decisions get made so much faster in person. I am also a big believer in making human connections in a world that is so digital: we mustn’t forget about the vitality of social interactions.
Do you have a working lunch or is it good to take a break?
It depends on the day entirely and if I get any urgent emails during my lunch period. I’m a lot better at taking a weekend off than a lunch hour off!
How do you prepare for the next day’s work?
Whilst cooking dinner, I always run through my next day’s agenda to recap in my mind what I am doing, who I am seeing and be mentally prepared.
How do you switch off?
Sport – no one can ever call you or email you during a workout; or if they do, you’re completely focused on something else! I also love watching historical documentaries and series.
Best piece of advice you received?
Never stop building meaningful relationships with customers and industry peers. Choosing to view competitors as potential partners instead can positively impact your business in a big way.
