My Working Day – Olivia Wollenberg – Founder of Livia’s
As the leader of a company, you are there to set an example, to lead and inspire a team individuals to achieve a series of business goals. But how do these business leaders go about their daily routine?
Business Leader spoke to Olivia Wollenberg – Founder of Livia’s, about her working day.
WHAT TIME DO YOU USUALLY WAKE UP?
I’ve always been an early riser and normally wake up very early at about 5.45am no matter what time I have gone to sleep!
WHAT DO YOU TYPICALLY HAVE FOR BREAKFAST?
I usually make a big cup of tea with a bowl of creamy porridge with as many toppings as can fit in the bowl! My favourite is to top mine with some of the livia’s nugglets – soooo good!
WHAT IS THE REST OF YOUR MORNING ROUTINE BEFORE YOU START WORK?
About 3 or 4 times a week I will go to a gym class such as spinning or barre at 6.30am which really helps to set me up for the day. On the other days I try and stay in bed for a little longer catching up on news and reading. I always aim to be in the office by 8.30am
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO AT THE START OF YOUR WORKING DAY?
Have a good chat with everyone in the team. Happy team=successful company, so I always make sure that this is my priority before getting to emails.
HOW DO YOU PRIORITISE YOUR DAYS WORK?
Every day in a start up company is different- that is what makes it fun and interesting, but also can make prioritisation challenging, and it is definitely something I have become so much better at over the last few years. Now that I have an amazing team around me, I am able to delegate efficiently so that I am not spending my time on things someone else can do! This allows me to prioritise the big opportunities and challenges and be thinking more about top-line strategy.
DO YOU PLAN MEETINGS OR ARE THEY A WASTE OF TIME?
They are definitely not a waste of time – in fact I find the best ideas come from collaboration and bouncing idea around with my team. Getting our heads together is really important, but it’s doesn’t always have to be in a formal meeting situation. Meetings with external people are necessary and so important too. I don’t do much over the phone-but do love a good zoom call as that really saves travel time.
DO YOU HAVE A WORKING LUNCH OR IS IT GOOD TO TAKE A BREAK?
It totally depends on what the day has in store, but I always try to take time to cook something up at lunchtime. We have a beautiful kitchen in the office which was designed to be used and enjoyed. Cooking and taking a bit of time out in the day can really help to reset for the rest of the afternoon. Of course sometimes it’s too busy to do this and I will just grab something on the go.
WHEN DOES YOUR WORKDAY FINISH?
As a founder there isn’t really an end to my day…i’m so passionate about livia’s that i’m always thinking about new ideas and what we can do next!
HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR THE NEXT DAY’S WORK?
When i’m not dreaming up new product lines or dashing between business meetings, I still stay true to my foodie roots. I love to cook and get creative with savoury dishes as well as sweet – believe it or not! I find cooking so therapeutic. I also love spending time with my family and baking with my nieces. Give me an opportunity to feed someone, and i’m happy!
HOW DO YOU SWITCH OFF?
If i’ve had a particularly hectic week of working through the nights and long meetings, I usually try and book a deep tissue massage. I find them so relaxing and afterwards I genuinely feel like a new woman, ready to take on all the challenges the new week will throw at me!
BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU RECEIVED?
Don’t pretend to be an expert in everything, hire people who can do things better than you can. Delegation is the key to a successful business.
