My Working Day – Tanya Lambert – Founder of Tanya’s Just Real
As the leader of a company, you are there to set an example, to lead and inspire a team of individuals to achieve a series of business goals. But, how do these business leaders go about their daily routine?
Business Leader spoke to Tanya Lambert – Founder of Tanya’s Just Real about her working day.
What time do you usually wake up?
What do you typically have for breakfast?
Prosciutto, smashed avocado with Fiery Fiasco, a soft-boiled egg and a red grapefruit.
What’s the rest of your morning routine before you start work?
Cross Training, breakfast with kids, a walk with them, and during lockdown – home schooling until 12.
What is the first thing you do at the start of the workday?
Call Katie Young, our Commercial Director, to find out what Tanya’s Just Real sauce she had for dinner and how she used it ? and to map out our plans for the day.
How do you prioritise your work?
Firstly, I consider the urgent versus the important, looking to tackle the urgent first. Assuming nothing is urgent, I will often complete the quick and easy ‘to do’s’ first, which gives me a sense of achievement and inspiration to focus my energy on the more demanding priority ‘to do’s’. Where possible, I try to mix up the things I enjoy with those that sap energy and are more mundane.
Do you plan meetings or are they a waste of time?
It depends on the nature of the meeting and attendees. For the main part, I do ensure I go into a meeting with a clear objective, structuring the agenda in such a way that the objective features multiple times during the meeting. However, I also enjoy the ad hoc meetings when the result is a productive surprise.
When does your working day finish?
I tend to work until 5:15pm. Then it’s dinner and family time and I pick up again after my babies are in bed. I try to finish by 10pm. However, the working day ending and switching off are very different things. Social media and networking play a key part of my working day and continue after the laptop is closed.
How do you prepare for your next day’s work?
Katie and I close off the day together, going through the to do list, ticking off what we have achieved and discussing what needs to happen tomorrow.
What’s your favourite piece of technology?
It’s got to be a High Pressure Processing unit! The technology that enabled me to produce my home-made sauces on a commercial scale, keeping them fresh, raw and totally clean-label.
How do you switch off?
Switching off is not my strong point. I do need to keep myself in check when it comes to work life balance – a challenge when you live, love and literally eat what you do on a daily basis!
However, when I know I really need a break, I give my phone to my little people and let them hide it and spend time losing myself in family fun.
Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Once you’ve found your purpose in life, trust your gut and just go for it.
