Newcastle and Gateshead’s bid to bring Channel 4’s new national headquarters to the North East region has not been successful.
However, the pair are in the running to host one of the broadcaster’s creative hubs.
Channel 4 is seeking to establish three new creative hubs outside London, as part of its ‘4 All the UK’ strategy.
There are seven still in the running to either host the main base or a hub, these include: Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Greater Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and the West Midlands.
Belfast, Brighton, Newcastle-Gateshead, Nottingham, Sheffield and Stoke-on-Trent have been shortlisted to host one of the two creative sites.
When this strategy is fully implemented, 300 Channel 4 jobs will be based in the regions and the intention is to grow this further over time.
