The NHS Transformation Unit (TU) has appointed Dr Julia Simon as the new Chief Strategy Officer and Deputy Chief Executive.

Julia will be leading the team based in the new London office.

Julia has a long-standing background in academia and the NHS, where she has worked in regional and national policy and strategy, acute provision and local commissioning. Most recently, Julia has been working as a freelance consultant supporting senior leaders and organisations in the UK and Internationally.

TU is an internal NHS consultancy specialising in the transformation of health and care.

Alex Heritage, Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted that Julia has joined us at the TU, she comes at a very exciting stage of our journey. Julia will be the newest member of the Leadership Team and our Board, with executive responsibility for driving forward our new 2025 strategy. We want to continue to support more NHS organisations to successfully change patient care. Having a new team based in London under Julia’s leadership will significantly enhance these opportunities”.

Dr Julia Simon added “I’m thrilled to be joining the TU at this exciting time of growth. The TU is a deeply values-based organisation, which works with NHS clients to develop genuinely tailored solutions, always with the patient in mind. I look forward to contributing to this ethos and to help lead the implementation of its ambitious new strategy with a specific focus on London and the south”.

Julia joined the NHS in 2004 on the general management training scheme after her first career as a philosophy lecturer and researcher.
