A solicitor with 20 years’ experience in the energy, utilities and engineering sectors has joined the construction team as a partner at Birmingham law firm Shakespeare Martineau.
Ian Griffiths has moved from Horizon Nuclear Power, where he built up extensive expertise in nuclear energy and a track record of advising on a range of energy generation, utilities and biofuel schemes.
His experience in construction and commercial law enables him to specialise on infrastructure and other project contracts and procurement.
In addition, Mr Griffiths is an advisory panel member to the Institution of Civil Engineers, as well as a legal consultant to the New Engineering Contract and a member of the International Nuclear Law Association.
He said: “Shakespeare Martineau is a firm that ‘gets’ the energy industry. They have a reputation in the sector for providing quality regulatory, commercial, property and corporate support to energy clients and are ambitious to expand energy infrastructure capability.
“It is a great place to be as the country faces up to the challenge of net zero carbon by 2050.”
And Alex Smith, partner and head of construction at Shakespeare Martineau, said: “Ian’s specialist knowledge of the energy sector will perfectly complement the wider team’s expertise, helping to further broaden our client base.
“Our track record speaks for itself. We go beyond pure contract drafting to cover strategic advice and risk management, putting our clients’ individual commercial interests first.
“Having Ian on board will reinforce the bridge between the energy and construction teams, helping us and our clients’ achieve even bigger and better things going forward.”
