According to charities MIND and Rethink, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem at any one time, and nine in ten people with a mental health problem face negative treatment from others as a result.
It is therefore vital that companies have a clear strategy in place which coherently addresses the issue at hand for their employees and breaks the silence around mental health for all.
To kick-start their wider initiative around wellbeing, Costain has launched its wellbeing strategy, spearheaded by Costain’s chief financial officer Tony Bickerstaff, which included the launch of the company’s wellbeing portal. The portal will play host to wellbeing courses, Costain’s strategy and the names and contact details of wellbeing champions and mental health first aiders available to help across the company.
Bickerstaff, said: “According to charity MIND, one in four of us will experience mental health problems at any one time, and so it is vital that companies have a wellbeing strategy in place that coherently addresses the issue at hand and breaks the silence around mental health for all.
“With more than 4,100 people currently employed at Costain and our mission being to improve people’s lives, it is vital that we offer an environment in which everyone feels comfortable and will attract and retain the very best people.
“Costain currently has more than 200 trained mental health aiders across the group, who are always on hand to listen to colleagues and point them in the direction of professional advice should they require it.”
