Revolut has announced a partnership with two time Heavyweight Champion of the World boxer, Anthony Joshua, to raise vital funding for independent gyms across the United Kingdom.
Facilities such as gyms and leisure centres were not included in the UK Government’s Sport Winter Survival Package that was announced late last year, and sports charity ukactive has estimated that 400 facilities have closed their doors permanently since the beginning of the pandemic and another 2,400 gyms are at risk.
To help raise vital funds for struggling independent gyms across the UK, Revolut has partnered with Anthony Joshua to launch a new glow-in-the-dark debit card. For every limited edition Anthony Joshua card ordered by a UK customer, Revolut will donate £1.00 to struggling independent boxing gyms across the UK (with Revolut committing a minimum of £50k in total).
The limited edition card is available to all of Revolut’s 15 million customers around the world.
Anthony Joshua said: “I am delighted to partner with Revolut to support UK boxing gyms. Without my local gym I would not be where I am today. Across the UK, there are kids and adults alike using these gyms to improve their physical and mental health, and keep themselves off the streets. I am really pleased my Revolut card will make a real difference.”
Alan Chang, Senior Vice President at Revolut, said: “These facilities provide vital services to their communities and play a critical role in the mental and physical health of their members. From day one, Revolut has always been community-driven, so we’re incredibly proud to partner with Anthony Joshua to help raise vital funds for independent gyms across the country.”
