Salford University is partnering with DigitalSport to host an event which will aim to feature demonstrations of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).
With virtual and augmented reality set to transform the way we watch sport in the next few years, these changes will be demonstrated and discussed at an event hosted by Salford University.
The event takes place on February 21 at the University of Salford MediaCityUK campus.
Alex Fenton, lecturer in digital business at the Salford University Business School, and event co-organiser, said: “VR has long been seen as the next big thing but it has never quite emerged. Putting on a VR headset is not always a very satisfying or social experience and that is the key to watching sport, either in the pub or in a home, it’s about sharing the experience with others and celebrating the highs and lows of sport together.
“VR and AR could be a game changer for sports clubs for giving a competitive edge to training or engaging with a global audience who may never physically attend a game.
“That is now possible with current technology and we will be showcasing that at our event, as well as discussing the future potential for the technology. VR and AR provides new ways for fans to interact and feel more involved, creating stronger connections to their favourite club.”
