A beauty salon on a Bristol high street is expanding and creating new jobs with help from NatWest.

Lucy Bamber, who owns Icon Beauty, set up the salon in Gloucester Road five years ago.

Now, as a result of its continuing success, she has purchased the property next door, knocking through to create a bigger salon with six spacious treatment rooms, nail stations and a relaxation area.

The salon already employs four beauty therapists and a receptionist and now Lucy, 34, intends to recruit up to three more therapists, with the possibility of more in future.

She said: “The business has continued to grow and has been more successful than I could ever have imagined and I have totally outgrown the premises I started in.

“The property next door has been empty for the five years I’ve been here so I approached the owners and they said they were willing to sell to me.

“It is very exciting. The potential is massive with this new space. The business can carry on growing – the possibilities are endless.

When the shop’s owners told Lucy they were willing to sell to her, she approached her NatWest relationship manager, Gary Giles, for help in obtaining finance.

Gary helped Lucy secure a commercial mortgage towards the purchase of the shop. She has also bought the flat above.

Gary said: “Icon Beauty is well managed by Lucy and she has always shown clear ambitions to grow the business.

“We are delighted to support a great independent business on this thriving high street.”
