Banking group Santander has unveiled new plans to create a state-of-the-art hub worth £75m in the Liverpool City region.
The new campus will provide a home to more than 2,500 staff, once complete the site will become Santander UK’s contact centre and main operations hub
The facility will replace the bank’s current offices in Bootle, Sefton – which opened in 1968.
In a statement, Santander chair Shriti Vadera said: “I’m delighted that we are celebrating 50 years in Bootle with this long term commitment to our people and the area. Bootle has been a significant part of Santander’s story and we see it as a crucial part of its future.”
The site will comprise an environmentally sustainable building with a range of health facilities such as a fitness centre, cycle storage and public park.
Nathan Bostock, chief executive of Santander UK, added: “The new campus will be a place that people will be proud of and excited to come and work in. There will be facilities that will be open to employees and the people in the area, underpinning Bootle’s place at the heart of the local community.
“This building has had a fascinating history and with today’s announcement it has an exciting future to look forward to.”
A planning application will be submitted to Sefton Council in November. Subject to approval, work could begin in 2019 with completion scheduled for 2022.
