Sawday’s announces certification as a registered B Corp

Sawday’s has announced its certification as a B Corporation; a growing group of companies who are reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.

The certification comes after a rigorous process assessing socially and environmentally responsible practices – including energy supplies, waste and water use, employee benefits, diversity and corporate transparency.

The Sawday’s group, which also includes glamping company Canopy & Stars, was founded on strong principles; not just about travel, but also how to do business in a way that is both socially and environmentally responsible. These values are part of the structure of the business, which became majority employee-owned in 2018. 24% of the business is also owned by a charitable trust dedicated to improving the relationship between travel and the environment. Sawday’s is one of only five companies in the UK that are both employee-owned and registered B Corp.

Mike Bevens, Managing Director of Sawday’s, said: “We are delighted to be part of a small, but growing, movement of companies wanting to make a positive social and environmental impact. This certification is recognition of the way our company has always chosen to do business and sits as part of our wider impact strategy. We are looking forward to further embedding these values into our business in 2020 and beyond.”

Kate Sandle, Director of Programmes and Engagement of B Lab UK, commented: “Being able to welcome Sawday’s to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.”
