Business bosses across the South West are being urged to enter an awards competition that could see them emulate one of the region’s leading directors.

Last year’s UK-wide Institute of Directors (IoD) Director of the Year Awards saw Robert Varley, of the Met Office, Exeter, named public/third sector director of the year.

His contemporaries from all sectors across the South West now have the chance to bid for honours in the awards’ 2013 regional contest.

IoD South West chairman Richard Ayre comments: “Robert achieved something very special last year – he and our other South West winners reaffirmed that there’s a huge amount to celebrate within our region’s enterprise community.

“As this year’s awards scheme launches, we’d like to hear from more leaders who exhibit great drive and skill.”

“We urge companies and individuals to nominate leaders who are shining beacons in their own fields.”

The South West’s IoD Director of the Year Awards 2013 seeks to highlight outstanding business people.

Awards nominations are open to anyone working at director level at any type of business – they don’t have to be an IoD member.

The categories include: SME director, large company director, non-executive director, young director, global director, public sector director, family business director, corporate responsibility.

A panel of experts will judge entries and the winners will be announced at a prestigious dinner on Thursday, June 6, at Bristol’s Marriott Royal Hotel.

South West winners this year will go forward to this year’s UK event in London in the autumn.

Entry form and more details – 0117 370 7785, iod.southwest@iod.com. Entry deadline, March 28.
